It’s been another weird week in retail. Hormel entered the face mask game, Mucinex created an apparel collection for sick people and Balenciaga partnered with Vibram to create a one-of-a-kind shoe.

Hormel wants the smell of bacon to waft through your nose everywhere you go
Whether it’s disposable, fabric or printed with your favorite sports team’s logo, you’ve probably collected your fair share of face masks. They’ve become just as essential as grabbing your phone and wallet when heading out the house.
But Hormel Foods came up with the perfect solution to make your already-steamy mask experience all the better: add artificial bacon scent.
The brand earlier this week launched the Hormel Black Label Breathable Bacon, a face mask scented with bacon.
“We’re continually focused on innovation – from new products, to marketing and distribution – all in an effort to deliver new and exciting ways to experience and enjoy BLACK LABEL® Bacon,” Nick Schweitzer, senior brand manager for Hormel Black Label Bacon, said in a statement. “In 2020, that means connecting everyone’s favorite bacon scent to the year’s ‘it’ accessory, and in doing so, bring BLACK LABEL® Bacon closer to our fans.”
Those interested can enter for a chance to win the truly unique product on www.BreathableBacon.com. But the best part? Hormel said it will donate one meal to Feeding America for every request they receive, up to 10,000 meals.
While nobody needed a meat-scented piece of fabric covering their nose and mouth, at least it’s helping a good cause.
Mucinex debuts apparel collection in time for the sick season
With the cold and flu season just around the corner (get your flu shot!!), Mucinex is readying a product sure to help those sick days more bearable.
Mucinex — you know, the brand that has a giant booger as a mascot — is trying its hand at apparel with the release of its “Sickwear” collection. The products range from $46 to $140.
And because it’s designed for individuals recovering from illness, the products feature antimicrobial, washable fabrics; pockets to store your tissues; aromatherapy sleeves; pillow hoodies and more.
“Mucinex® has always relied on scientific innovation, but we know consumers need more than just symptom relief as they recover from colds and flu; they also want to feel cared for, cozy and comfortable,” Claudine Patel, general manager for health at RB, said in a statement. “A sick day routine is built around emotional wellness as much as physical, and we believe that we are tapping a unique space at the intersection of symptom relief and total mind & body wellness. This is an experience that is both emotional and impulsive and a new occasion for the category.”
The brand will sell items from the collection in a livestream at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday on Mucinex’s YouTube channel.
These shoes get two thumbs (and 10 toes) up
In 2004, shoemaker Vibram redefined what it means to be a shoe with the launch of the “FiveFinger,” a shoe the company describes as “a foot glove, a true ‘second skin.'”
The shoes, which feature individual toe pockets, were meant to provide flexibility and engage with the natural motion of your foot. And while the company claims the shoes are “revolutionizing the concept of walking ‘barefoot,'” the appearance is enough to make some consumers’ stomachs turn. Definitely not something you’d see on the runway.
But if there’s one thing we learned in 2020, it’s to never say never.
The shoe brand collaborated with Balenciaga to create a collection of heeled five-toed shoes, something haute amphibians everywhere will be racing to snap up.

The shoes are currently available on Balenciaga’s website and in select stores, but it’ll cost you. Each pair is just under $1,300.
But the worst part? This isn’t even the first collaboration we’ve seen this year between Vibram and a high-fashion brand. In February, Suicoke teamed up with the brand to release its own take on the five-toed shoe.
